I’m no relationship expert but I do know a thing or two about furniture that needs to be tossed for the betterment of a relationship.

I’m talking about the ‘I’ve-had-this-since-college’ items and the ‘black-never-goes-out-of-style’ stuff. They are the pieces of furniture your boyfriend doesn’t want to get rid of because ‘they’re so practical and comfortable’ but they’re one of the main reasons you don’t want to cohabit with him.

And not to just pick on the men here…do you frequently have nightmares that involve drowning under a sea of shoe boxes and magazines that your girlfriend refuses to throw away because ‘they’re pretty and might come in handy one day’?

So if you’ve found yourself in a situation similar to the ones described here (do please write me and tell me about it!), check out this a great article on wikiHow about How to Merge Two Households. It provides a whole bunch of great tips on how to negotiate and communicate about what stuff can stay and what should go when couples decide to move in together.
